Conference Summary

(Moderator)

Thank you for waiting. The 56th regular press conference is about to begin.

(Chairman)

NEXCO CENTRAL Hironori Yano, Chairman and CEO

Hello everyone.
Let's start with the current state of the business, and then let me explain the five topics at the beginning.
First, regarding the situation of Expressway, the fee income in May decreased by 1.2% from the same month of the previous year. The number of passing vehicles is 3.8% higher. It has been more than a year since the large-scale rate discount started, and there is no big difference compared to the previous year. Toll income is low but flat. It means that the number of passing cars is high but flat. The relationship between the fare and the number of passengers is the same as before. Since then, the ETC discount amount has increased by 10.1%. As a result, the ETC discount rate is approximately 47.3%. If there is no ETC discount, the fee income will be plus 3.8%.

The traffic volume by vehicle is reported every time. Compared with this year (2010) and 2009, light 109.2%, medium 101.5%, medium 103.6%, large 107.4%, extra 115.7%, total 103.0% %is. Compared to fiscal 2008, light is 114.5%, medium 104.1%, medium 87.9%, large 86.7%, oversized 89.8%, total 101.5%. Compared to the year before last, 90% of mid-sized and larger models were over last month, but they are now below 90%. In addition, the mileage of the mileage is 100.0% for the light, 100.5% for the medium, 105.1% for the medium size, 107.5% for the large size, 117.7% for the oversized size, and 102.8% in total, compared to FY2009. Compared to fiscal 2008, 128.7% are light, 119.9% are medium, 89.6% are medium, 90.7% are large, and 98.0% are extra large, for a total of 111.9%.

Next, the situation of construction has not changed from the last time.

Regarding the ETC situation, the daily average number of vehicles used was 108.2% and the utilization rate was 86.2%. Most recently, June 11-17, 86.5%. From May 7th to 13th, it was almost flat at 86.4%. Weekdays are 86.4% to 86.6%, weekends and holidays are 86.2% to 86.3%, which means that they are flat. The number of vehicle-mounted devices that can be installed is 31.11 million, and if re-setup is included, it will be 37.96 million.

Despite the situation in the service area, sales were 105.1% compared to the same month of the previous year, and when you look at the breakdown, the food and beverage sales division was 101.4%. Food and drink account for 99.1%, and product sales account for 102.7%. The food and beverage department is below 100% because large-scale improvements have started. The service sector was 80.1%, which was also affected by major improvements. Although it is gasoline, it is 118.3%. The quantity was the same as last year, but the unit price difference was 22 yen, and sales are expected to increase by 18.3%. The advertising department is 234.8%. This is also a department with a small absolute number, and this is the result.
The above is a general overview of the business.

Next is a report on the completion of restoration work for the Tomei Makinohara Earthquake disaster. Since the restoration work on the embankment itself has been completed, Yoshikawa, the executive officer in charge, will report on the situation.

(Managing Director Yoshikawa)

Based on the materials at hand, I will explain the restoration completion report for the Tomei Expwy Makinohara area earthquake disaster. Due to the earthquake that occurred at 5:07 on August 11, 2009, with the epicenter at Suruga Bay, the embankment slope near the Makinohara SA on the Tomei Expwy collapsed and the road was closed. We will inform you that is completed. As you can see in the document, on June 7th and 8th, day and night continuous running one-lane regulation was carried out, construction of pavement and protection fence was carried out, and with the completion, construction of the embankment main body was completed. As a result, the speed limit of 50 km / h on the main line, which had been in place for about 10 months, was lifted, and the speed has changed to 80 km / h.
There will be additional work outside the main line, so we will continue to aim for completion in July, and all work will be completed with that.
A cross-sectional view of the countermeasure work, a picture of the completion of the embankment work and the completion of the main line pavement work is shown on page 2, and a summary photo of the work is shown on page 3.
Also, as for the investigation of similar parts, as we reported last time, there is no part that requires urgent measures, but we are still continuing the investigation. that's all.

(Chairman)

The next theme is information about holding the second customer service contest. This is today's announcement. Currently, SA / PA has 7,000 staff members who work every day, and we plan to hold the second customer service contest to choose the customer service skill number one from among them. It will be held on July 14th. There are more than two hundred participants and 24 of them are invited to the final round to decide the prize winners, and experts are invited from outside to judge, such as favorable impression, communication ability, sales ability etc. It is supposed to compete for customer service skills. Up until now, the contest was limited to two categories, food and beverage sales, but this time we decided to compete in three categories including specialty stores. This is today's presentation material.

4 th, Meishin Expwy but is not celebrating the 45 anniversary of the whole line opening, of Taga SA and we commemorate the whole line opening 45 anniversary of Out-bound and the Yoro of the SA Out-bound 'll do an event in. We announced this matter on June 18th from the Nagoya Regional Head Office, but I thought it was a good opportunity, so I will explain it today. The traffic volume has increased 11.1 times since the whole line opened in 1965. Since 36% of medium- and long-distance freight vehicles use the Meishin Expwy they are playing an active role as a major artery for the flow of people and logistics. In other words, it is the oldest road in the major highways and has a problem of deterioration, so I would like to promote the 100-year road plan and aim for a vibrant road even after 100 years.

Lastly, there are two examples of environmental measures that we introduce every time. The first one is COP10 public relations support activities, so as we can see in the document, we have set up chainsaw art at a rest facility in Aichi prefecture for everyone to see. Chainsaw Art means that the world competition was held at the end of May, and we started to make it. As you can see in the picture, we are trying to use the wood generated in Shin-Tomei Expressway. I would like to make an original poster to help a little for the success of COP10. I intend to use the logo mark for business cards and pamphlets, and I will do my best to make the conference held in October a success.
The other 1 is, Kedomo is a butterfly that Luehdorfia, and now is the fact that this habitat creation, which is there in the intestine that is specified in the endangered species two and the Red Book, Tokai-Hokuriku Expressway March in Johana SA of It is said that during the construction stage of 2012, a habitat was created so that nearby Gifu butterflies would fly into the SA. It is about planting trees in the SA that are the source of the thickets or the Japanese mallow, which feeds on the Gifu butterflies, in order to attract the Gifu butterflies. Since the growth was confirmed, in April of this year, we held a butterfly party with the local students of Johana Elementary School and the Gifucho no Sato making club. It is a Gifu butterfly raised from eggs collected in the previous year to become butterflies, and it has been confirmed that it is flying in SA. I would like to continue this activity in the future.

That's all for the presentation materials today, but as you all know, we will retire on the next Monday of the 28th. Thank you very much for all your help over the past four years. We would like to ask for your cooperation in developing the company. I will also be retiring with President Takahashi and Senior Managing Director Nishiyama, so I would like to introduce them as well.

(President)

Thank you for a long time. I'm really happy to share a meaningful time with you for four and a half years. We look forward to your continued support in the future.

(Moderator)

So I'd like to take your questions.

(Reporter)

I think you had a frank impression that you will retire at this time, and I think you had some difficulties during your tenure, but please tell us if you have a memorable job or event.

(Chairman)

A company is like a relay, and it is important that the company develops forever, but the players there change over time. It was at this time that I had to change the policy due to the government's policy, but I'm still working hard to make what we do as a business continue to really help the world. I think it must be done.
I have a lot of memories, and I think the most joyous event is that the roads have been opened, which is like a new route every year. The best way to do this is the whole Tokai-Hokuriku Expwy July of last year, 185km. I was deeply moved when I came here often through the Hida tunnel. Shin-Meishin Expressway was opened in February of the same year. Every year after that, somewhere is opened, I feel the joy of creating new things each time, and since it is a gift with the cooperation of the local people, together with the local people I was happy that I was happy.
Then it is disaster recovery. Natural disasters are inevitable. It is strange for us to be proud of our company, but it is still a company with a very strong field strength, and although our daily ability is hard to see, it means that it will be exerted in such a disaster. As I explained earlier from Yoshikawa, the embankment of Tomei Makinohara collapsed. I am glad that everyone was pleased with the fact that this was a temporary restoration in a very short period of time. In addition, cut soil collapsed in May last year at the Otsuki interchange on the Chuo Expressway Expressway. Recently, I've been talking about Tomeisaka, and I don't know when a natural disaster will come. So I can't do natural disasters but human disasters. We have made a wish that we should not cause a secondary disaster, and I think we have managed to do so until today.
Also, I am thinking of overseas business as a pillar of our future business, and I think that the clue was obtained in Vietnam. We signed a memorandum of understanding, opened an office a year ago, and now we can accept orders for specific projects, and I'm glad that it has started to sprout a little, even though it's really from now on. You also accept trainees by signing a memorandum of understanding with Malaysia and working together. After all, I think that I could have made an important step in thinking about the future.

(Reporter)

The second point is related to that, I think that you have been developing various businesses during the term of office of the chairman, do you say that you are unfinished, you call it regret, there is something like that? Whether?

(Chairman)

Everyone, everything. I didn't do much during my tenure. I think I just planted the seeds. Let's create a management philosophy and make a company that is really pleased with the world. Let's do CSR management based on it. We will promote the integration of the group and work as a group as a whole as well as the parent company. Think of it as a future business and make Shin-Tomei Expressway world's leading road. In the 100-year road plan, the existing roads are a property of the people, so I sought hard to keep them healthy even after 100 years, and sowed seeds in various things such as overseas business and travel industry, but finally the seeds emerged It's only started, and I think that the people who will be left behind will have a lot of trouble in that regard, but since all of you have brought it to this point, I really hope that it will be fruited.

(Reporter)

I think the third point is related to that, but what kind of advice would you give to the new president if you could say something, such as some words when you touched the baton, or if you could call out here?

(Chairman)

I'm done with the transfer, and I'm telling you the same thing I just said. The successor has a deep knowledge of CSR management, and I am expecting that he will be motivated in many ways.

(Reporter)

I would like to ask about your retirement, but I heard that this time you will not be left as an advisor or that kind of thing, but the president and senior managing director will also be retired, so everyone at the top is saying. Since he will be retired, will there be any problems with future business succession or continuity?

(Chairman)

There are a lot of things left behind, and I think that I was able to share all of my aspirations because everyone has been working with the same feeling all the time, so I hope that I will be able to support the new chairman and president. I'm not really worried.

(Reporter)

Is there any concern about the influence of the change in Prime Minister on the overseas business that you have just mentioned as a memorable job, and the change in Prime Minister over the existing infrastructure export policy?

(Chairman)

Especially now, I have nothing to realize. Business development in Asia is part of the current growth strategy of the government, and I would like to see this actively promoted. In particular, the business of constructing and operating infrastructure, rather than the business of selling commodities, really takes a long time. It's hard to do it with just one company, and I think the more important thing is to work together with the country. I think the infrastructure business is like that. The relationship between governments is very important, and we carry out actual business with technology and funds, but the important background situation for doing that job is to make it between governments In that sense, I think it's important to work together, and I don't think the environment itself has changed. Therefore, I would rather rather focus on it.

(Reporter)

As with the personnel who will be retiring this time, I think that during the tenure of the office, the Expressway 1,000 yen, it is free, and I think that various government policies were at the mercy. .

(Chairman)

It's related to the question I mentioned earlier, but there was a price issue that I remember. This is still a national policy, so I decided to do it properly so I made every preparation. The most time consuming and troublesome thing is modifying the system. I managed to make do with this since March of last year, so I think that it went smoothly. The next free service will start on June 28th, but we are preparing for it as well and are waiting for that day. It could be called a kind of utility bill, but of course there could be public involvement, and the question is whether you can do it, you can not say that you can not do it, but if you decide Based on the premise, I think we should consider when we can do it. In that sense, we have a group to cooperate with us, and we managed to make things so smooth, and I would like to continue doing so.

(Reporter)

Now that you have the top from the private sector, what would it be like to send an ale to the top from the private sector?

(Chairman)

I agree. As a company with a strong work force and a very good mood, it has a great social mission, so I would like you to develop your business so that it can meet the expectations of the world.

(Reporter)

Expressway companies have entered the fifth year since privatization, and the form of future privatization of Expressway companies, for example, the shares now owned by the state, may be thought of as the form of future privatization. Or?

(Chairman)

I think that the past five years have been the time to create a business reality that looks like a private company, that is, to solidify the business foundation. I think that it has finally come to a certain extent. So, even our company made a five-year plan for the five years starting from this April, and drawn the future composition. Therefore, I hope that everyone in Central Japan will work based on that. There is a debate in the Diet that it will be listed in the future when it is privatized, and I don't think that it has disappeared, but it is really important to create the actual situation as a private company and improve its ability. I think that.

(Reporter)

I think the chairman is a lot different from Toshiba because it's an infrastructure business, but what comes from a pure private company is what needs to be improved, and what I thought during my term would be a stronger company if I solved this. do you have?

(Chairman)

I think a road company is like a big manufacturing company. I didn't know anything about it, but from the experience of Toshiba, I was impressed with how similar it is to build a nuclear power plant. In terms of building social infrastructure, things are different from semiconductors and home appliances. It's called heavy electric at an electronics company, but it has a very similar feel. Teamwork is good, there is a sense of mission, and there is technical skill. So I didn't feel uncomfortable. What I felt a while after coming was that the speed was a little slow, compared to the private sector. If you take 100 points carefully, it will be late. 60 points is all right, so let's continue to do it. I used to say to speed up, but recently I've stopped saying so much.
Then it's a vertical division of the organization. I thought that the cooperation of the side was a little thin, so I came up with committees, cross-organizational activities, and project teams. I think it is much closer to the private sector than it was five years ago. The most important thing is consciousness. I don't think that we could change our mindset unless we can really think of the customer first. In that sense, I think I have come to feel the response. It's been four years since I arrived, and I think it was a noisy dad who always said the same thing, but it feels like four years have passed in no time. I made 4 rounds on the road and entered the 5th round. I think that each of us could listen to each other's opinions and give their opinions and understand each other's ideas. I also learned. I've been working for an economic organization for seven years since I moved from Toshiba to Nippon Keidanren, but it's not a real job like making things, it's like a think tank. But I found that some member companies are good and some are bad. In that sense, I was able to broaden my horizons, and I think that was useful.

(Reporter)

Are there any decisions about the future?

(Chairman)

The story was sudden, so I'll try to calm down a little. I have also been involved in community service activities separately from my main business, but I would like to focus on that. I want to calm down and think about it.

(Moderator)

This is the end of the regular press conference. Thank you very much.
