[Development of a new grout reinjection method (PC (Prev) -Rev method] for prestressed concrete structures)

As part of our efforts to improve safety, we are developing technology that will lead to higher durability and lower life cycle costs.
As part of this, we would like to report on the development of a new grout re-injection method for prestressed concrete structures, which we will be introducing for the first time.
This technology was developed by two of our Companies in our Group, Central -NEXCO Technical Marketing Company Limited and Oriental Shiroishi Co., Ltd.
Expressway are made of structures such as bridges and tunnels, and bridges are mainly divided into steel and concrete. Concrete is further classified into two types: ordinary reinforced concrete (RC) and prestressed concrete (PC).
In a PC bridge, prestressing steel members are arranged as shown in Figure 1 of the document.
Currently, the sheath pipe is completely filled with PC grout because of the construction management standards in place, but before the construction management standards were established in 2004, there was insufficient technical knowledge and the sheath pipe There may be areas where the PC grout is insufficiently filled (unfilled areas).
Targeting these unfilled areas, we have developed the PC-Rev method, which allows for safer, more efficient and reliable re-injection of PC grout.
As a result, the inherent durability of the PC bridge can be maintained over a long period of time.
Next, we will explain the construction procedure of this method.
See Figure 2 in the document.
First, we will investigate the existing structure by taking X-ray radiographs to identify areas where PC grout has not been filled, and by using a reinforcing bar probe to determine the location of the sheath pipe.
Next, a hole is made in the existing concrete using a rotary drill, and after investigating the amount of cavity inside the sheath, PC grout is injected to fill the hole and the work is completed.
The PC-Rev construction method has three features.
The first is a control system that can prevent damage to the steel when drilling holes.
The second is a technology that allows the size of the hole to be kept to the minimum necessary.
The third is technology that allows us to determine the amount of gaps with high precision.
The newly developed technology is highly anticipated as a highly reliable and effective technology when re-grouting is required as a repair measure for PC bridges.
Our company will continue to work together as a group to advance technological development that will lead to higher durability and lower life cycle costs, with safety as our top priority.
