I have reported that it has been completed as described. Although the three-year plan has been completed, we believe that "safety" on Expressway is a theme for us that must be challenged forever. The committee ended with the Expert Committee the other day, but we will continue to work to improve the safety by receiving opinions and advice from outside experts in the future. I came to the idea that there is. Currently, we are preparing for the establishment of a new committee and other organizations composed of outside experts. [Moderator]

Now, let's receive your questions.

[Reporter]

Please give an overview of the development of autonomous driving.

[Miyaike president]

Regarding autonomous driving, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, National Institute of Land and Infrastructure Policy (National Research Institute) plays a central role in gathering automobile manufacturers, IT-related companies, map-related companies, road-related companies, etc. We are conducting joint research to study for autonomous driving at Expressway in the 2020s. As an infrastructure company of Expressway, what we can do as Expressway, where is traffic jam, where is traffic regulation , There is information about the weather. By incorporating this information into automated driving, I think that more advanced automated driving will be possible. While providing such information from the infrastructure side, we would like to work on automatic driving of Expressway using ETC2.0.

[Reporter]

According to some reports, it was said that Central Nippon Expressway will develop the system, but is it that you are participating in the project?

[Miyaike president]

It means that we are participating in the project and doing the research that we should do.

[Reporter]

It means transmitting traffic jams and construction information to the car, but at this point in time, such technology already exists, and is it an image of further strengthening communication functions?

[Miyaike president]

Currently, we are passing information such as traffic jams on a one-way street, but we are making further progress. For that reason, we would like to further spread ETC 2.0, which is capable of two-way communication.

[Reporter]

Do you have any plans to use the Expressway for autonomous driving test runs?

[Miyaike president]

Although it is not our company, it seems that the automobile manufacturer is conducting a test drive for automatic driving.

[Reporter]

Do you have any specific cooperation?

[Miyaike president]

We are exchanging information with each other as part of joint research.

[Employees]

Supplementally, I had been experimenting with Shin-Tomei Expressway in the past, but I am not doing it now. Each car manufacturer conducts each test course. I've heard that it's partly done on Expressway.

[Reporter]

With regard to joint research, by when will there be something like a process table that will compile a final report and proceed with commercialization?

[Employees]

There is no clear one, but we are currently studying it in three stages: what you can do now, what you can do a little later, and what you need to consider. What we can do now is in the overall plan what we can do if we devise with existing technology such as ETC 2.0. It is not just our company's uniqueness, but that we will proceed while participating in joint research with the National Research Institute.

[Reporter]

The other is in that participating Expressway but I think whether there is also a company, Expressway company companies play in role or will the difference between.

[Employees]

There may be some differences between our company and other companies' Expressway various conditions such as traffic volume, but we are proceeding with the fact that the basic service should be the same. Therefore, the roles are not divided.

[Reporter]

Is there anything that can be supported because it is Central Japan Expressway?

[Miyaike president]

Our company manages many routes with heavy traffic (heavy traffic routes). Tomei, Meishin, Shin-Tomei Expressway, Shin-Meishin Expressway heavy traffic routes, such as the hope to do not you avail. I think that it will alleviate traffic congestion and reduce traffic accidents, so I would like to actively pursue heavy traffic routes.

[Reporter]

Is it the attitude that you want to actively do what you can do for autonomous driving?

[Miyaike president]

The whole country is working as a project, so I would like to cooperate and participate as much as possible.

[Reporter]

It has been almost two years since the president was appointed. At the first meeting I took up your post, I think you made a statement that you need to create an open corporate culture in order to improve safety and security. Based on that, please tell us if you have a look back over the past two years and any challenges for the future.

[Miyaike president]

Since the accident at the Sasago Tunnel, we have made a strong commitment to provide customers with a Expressway that they can drive with peace of mind, and for the past two years, we have been implementing both hardware and software measures in the 3-Year Plan for Improving Safety. As for hardware measures, all the planned ones have been completed. With regard to software measures, we were able to "visualize" and share information about safety culture within the group, safety education, how to carry out safety-related work, and how to manage it. For the organization, I would like to improve the level while rotating PDCA and continue to do so.
In addition, we are now able to undertake a renewal project to deal with the deterioration of Expressway, but we would like to continue to carry out our business steadily. Also, regarding ITS, I think we must advance technological development in order to raise the technical level and manage roads with higher reliability, given the declining birthrate and aging population and labor shortage. In terms of improving work efficiency and productivity as well, we would like to consider increasing the efficiency of work methods to increase productivity.

[Reporter]

It means that the pass for foreign visitors to Japan will be extended, but please tell us your long-term image regarding the use of this unlimited ride pass.

[Miyaike president]

The number of users is about 2,800 last year, and this year, it has been steadily increasing to about 900 in two months. It covers not only the Chubu region but also the Kyoto area, so I would like to continue to promote it in the future while promoting PR in an easy-to-understand format.

[Reporter]

Please tell me your nationality in the breakdown of foreigners you use.

[Miyaike president]

Hong Kong has the largest number, around 3/4. Next is Taiwan, then Korea.

[Reporter]

Currently, the Expressway signs are written in two patterns, Japanese and English. How many words do you plan to write in the future?

[Miyaike president]

The service area is basically written in five languages. In addition to displaying characters, pictograms are also used for guidance. Road signs are difficult to distinguish when using multiple languages, so we are promoting it in Japanese and Romaji English.

[Moderator]

It seems that your question has been interrupted, so this is the end of your regular meeting.
