September 14, 2026

On Expressway managed by NEXCO CENTRAL, 18 fatal traffic accidents occurred between January and August 2026, resulting in the loss of 24 precious lives. (As of August 26, according to our company's research)
NEXCO CENTRAL will be conducting traffic safety awareness activities in conjunction with the nationwide autumn traffic safety campaign, including urging customers using Expressway to observe traffic rules and improve their driving manners. When using Expressway, please refer to the following "Expressway Traffic Safety Points" and keep safe driving in mind.

Expressway Traffic Safety Points≫

● Accidents involving stationary vehicles can lead to fatalities. Be careful of stationary vehicles on Expressway!
There has been a surge in "rear-end collisions" involving vehicles that have stopped due to accidents, breakdowns, traffic jams, etc. Among the fatal traffic accidents that have occurred on Expressway managed by NEXCO CENTRAL, "rear-end collisions" account for a large proportion.
○In the unlikely event that your vehicle comes to a stop on Expressway, remaining inside the vehicle or on the road is extremely dangerous as it could result in a rear-end collision. Turn on your hazard lights to signal to oncoming vehicles, and while paying attention to other cars and your footing, quickly move to a safe place such as outside the guardrail.

●Fatal accidents involving motorcycles are frequent! Drive safely when touring!
Sudden steering or braking on a motorcycle can easily lead to serious accidents such as falls. Do not overestimate your driving skills or vehicle performance, pay close attention to surrounding traffic conditions, and enjoy a safe and enjoyable ride.

○ Avoid dangerous behaviors that violate traffic rules, such as weaving through traffic jams, driving on the shoulder, or overtaking from the left side of a vehicle.
○There have been many fatal accidents involving motorcycles that have fallen over. Please drive safely by not speeding and maintaining a safe distance from other vehicles.

● Dangerous, distracted driving!
Using smartphones or car navigation systems while driving ("distracted driving") is extremely dangerous and carries a high risk of leading to serious accidents. Maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front and pay close attention to the road ahead.

○Using a mobile phone while driving is prohibited. Please set your phone to drive mode and use it only at service areas (SA) or parking areas (PA).
A vehicle traveling at 100 km/h moves approximately 28 meters forward per second. Using a smartphone or car navigation system while driving is extremely dangerous and should be avoided at all costs.

● Introducing Michi Raji
The "Michi Raji" smartphone app provides road traffic information via voice push notifications, including information on congestion, accidents, and road closures on Expressway. Please download and use it before you go out.
