Overweight vehicles are prohibited!!
What are general limits?
Roads are built according to certain structural standards. For this reason, the Road Law stipulates maximum limits for the size and weight of vehicles traveling on roads in order to protect road structures and prevent traffic hazards. (Article 47, Paragraph 1 of the Road Law, Article 3 of the Vehicle Control Order)
This maximum limit is called the general limit.

If a passing vehicle exceeds even one of the general limits or exceeds one of the permitted limits, it is a "Vehicle Limit Violation". If you continue to drive on Expressway while violating the vehicle restriction ordinance, the deterioration of the road will be accelerated, and the safety of your vehicle cannot be ensured, which may lead to the occurrence of a serious traffic accident.
Pay attention not only to the vehicle's "gross weight" but also to its "axle load"!
"Axle load" is the weight on each axle.
The Vehicle Restriction Ordinance stipulates a general limit of 10 tons for axle loads. Even if the "gross weight" is below the general limit, the "axle load" may exceed due to uneven loading.
According to national estimates, if a vehicle with an axle weight of 20 tons that violates the vehicle restriction ordinance passes, the concrete floor of the bridge will accumulate about 4,000 times the fatigue of a vehicle with an axle weight of 10 tons, which will accelerate the deterioration of the road. leads to

Application for permission to pass special vehicles
Vehicles that exceed the general limit value (special vehicles) must apply based on the “special vehicle traffic permit system”, receive a special vehicle traffic permit from the road administrator, and install the permit on the vehicle. It is possible to (Article 47-2 of the Road Act)

Regulations and penalties for violation of vehicle restrictions
We are cracking down on vehicles violating vehicle restriction orders at interchange entrances. In this control, measures such as reduction of cargo are taken for vehicles found to be in violation.
A permit is required for vehicles exceeding the weight and size limits!
《Cracking down on vehicles violating vehicle restriction orders》

In our service area, the axle load of vehicles traveling on the expressway is automatically measured by automatic axle load gauges installed on the Expressway Expressway.
In addition, regarding the measurement results of the automatic axle load gauge, we cooperate with the Japan Expressway Ownership and Debt Repayment Agency and each Expressway company to provide guidance and crack down on violators of the vehicle restriction ordinance.

Malicious offenders and habitual offenders may be reported to the police.

Measures such as suspension of large and frequent discounts for violators of the vehicle restriction order
Violation of the Vehicle Restriction Ordinance is given points according to the degree of violation, and measures such as suspension of discounts for large and frequent traffic are taken when the cumulative number of violation points reaches a certain number.
At Expressway companies, in light of the fact that overweight violating vehicles continue to pass and are a factor in significantly deteriorating roads, from April 1, 2017, discounts will be suspended for violators of vehicle restriction orders. We are reviewing the content of the measures.
| Accumulated Violation Points | Details of measures |
|---|---|
| 30 points | Guidance through seminars, etc. |
| 60 points | Partial discount suspension (1 month) |
| 90 points | Partial discount suspension (2 months) |
| 120 points | Partial suspension (1 month) |
| 150 points | Partial suspension (2 months) |
* After that, the partial suspension period will be extended by 1 month for every 30 points.
About large and frequent discounts
Violation of vehicle restrictions is not just a problem for carriers!
The details of the corrective guidance given to those who repeatedly violated the Road Act (Vehicle Restriction Ordinance) on Expressway are published on the website of the Japan Expressway Ownership and Debt Repayment Organization.
