Interview date: November 2023

Q. What was your motive for joining the company?

Expressway, which are Japan's main arteries for logistics, are important infrastructure indispensable for economic activities, and by providing safe and secure Expressway space 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, they contribute to people's lives and society. Because I wanted to.

Q. What kind of work is your job?

We are in charge of updating the facilities and equipment on Tomei Expwy (between OiMatsuda IC and Numazu IC). In order to provide a safe and secure Expressway space, facilities and equipment that have been in operation for more than 30 years must be updated at an appropriate time. Currently, our main work is considering and ordering construction for updating tunnel ventilation equipment, road lighting equipment, and road surveillance camera equipment. In addition, since Tomei Expwy in our jurisdiction has a traffic volume of approximately 90,000 vehicles per day, we will consider construction plans and construction methods, process management, and quality control to minimize the impact on customers. We also do this.

Q. How rewarding is this job?

I feel that the most rewarding thing is being able to contribute to the development of the Japanese economy and people's lives by being involved in the maintenance, management, and construction Expressway Japan's main arteries. Expressway construction in particular is a very large-scale project, and because your own efforts and hardships take on a large form and are marked on a map for the rest of your life, you can tackle your work with an extremely high level of motivation. . On the other hand, when it comes to maintaining and managing Expressway, employees can approach their work with a strong sense of mission: "We must not shut down this extremely important transportation infrastructure."

Q. What are your thoughts on the appeal and characteristics of this company?

There is job rotation every few years. By rotating jobs to various regions such as the Tokyo metropolitan area, the Tokai region, and the Hokuriku region, you can gain experience of looking at Expressway from a multifaceted perspective. In particular, in the metropolitan area, which has a lot of traffic, and in the Hokuriku region, which has heavy snowfall, even though the maintenance work is the same, the perspectives and ways of working are completely different. Another feature of the company is that it has a high proportion of young employees and is very energetic. There are many seniors, classmates, and juniors that I can easily talk to, and I often go on trips or go on winter sports with my colleagues on holidays.

Q. What are your goals for the future?

Nowadays, technological innovation is progressing at a rapid pace, and Expressway facilities and equipment are required to incorporate technology that is in line with the times. As a facility worker, there are a wide variety of things to tackle, including not only countermeasures for aging Expressway, but also responses to autonomous driving technology in recent years. We hope to continue to contribute to society by collecting and introducing information on on-site issues and new technologies, and by providing Expressway that customers can use more safely, securely, and comfortably. .
